I was diagnosed about 10 years ago. These days I'm starting to feel sane and am sleeping well mostly. When I look for work, all I get is politely told that I am essentially worthless as a worker. Is that fair? One place I called, the guy said he would give me a chance based on our conversation, then suddenly, nope sorry. Any ideas of what to try or should I just consider myself retired?
Bipolar person looking for a job?
If they're openly turning you down for a job because you have Bipolar.. It's discimination and you could sue their asses.
On the other hand.. You are NOT required to tell them that you have Bipolar when you apply for a job.
You're only required to tell them of a disability if it will prevent you from doing your job or require you to have help doing it... And in the case of Bipolar, that doesn't apply.
If someone turns you down because you have Bipolar.. And they say so, tell them they'll be talking to your lawyer.
In fact... And this is just me... But I would take a small tape recorder with me to my interviews, in my pocket, so that if they openly turned me down because of I have Bipolar.. I'd have proof... But I'd only do that if, like you, that has been the case in the past.
You have just as much of a right to work as anyone else.
I have Bipolar, I was diagnosed with it when I was 11, and it doesn't effect my ability to do my job at all. I've always been a good worker.... None of the people that I have worked for ever knew that I had Bipolar. I went to college and graduated, and no one had a clue.
Reply:Try a state employment program. That is what I am doing. I have had similar experiences about my employability. It really bites, but I am not giving up,so please don't either.

Reply:People wouldn't know you were bipolar unless you told them. So my suggestion is keep it to yourself and take your meds to keep your emotions under control. Find you a job where you are not working around other people all day everyday and i think you'll be fine. hope that helps.
Reply:I have a friend who was in your position. He had to start his own company.
How do they know you were diagnosed as being bipolar?
Good luck.
